Safety
FreeTheGram is a free, community-run space. We want everyone here to feel safe, whether you are posting, browsing, buying, or selling. These are the basics.
Your account
- You must be 13 or older to create an account. Accounts for people 17 and under are private and cannot message shops, open a shop, or check out. A parent or guardian can help with transactions on their own account.
- Use a strong, unique password and never share it or any verification code with anyone, including people who say they work for FreeTheGram.
- We will never ask for your password, card details, or bank login.
Messaging
- Keep conversations in FreeTheGram messages when you can. If you and the other person prefer private email, share only the address you are comfortable using. Providers with built-in encryption, such as Proton Mail, add extra privacy.
- Do not share your home address, passwords, card numbers, or bank details in a first message.
- Be wary of anyone who pressures you to act fast, asks you to overpay and refund the difference, or wants to move to an unfamiliar app.
Buying and selling
- FreeTheGram does not process or hold payments and does not verify items or sellers. Agree on the item, price, and handoff with the other person before paying.
- We recommend payment methods with a record, such as Venmo, Zelle, or Cash App, or cash when meeting in person. Avoid gift cards and wire transfers.
- Sellers ship or hand off items only after the payment arrangement is settled. Keep tracking information for shipped items.
Meeting in person
- Meet in a public, well-lit place, and tell a friend or family member where you are going.
- Inspect the item before you pay. If anything feels off, leave.
- Consider bringing someone with you.
Reporting a problem
Use the “…” menu on any post, listing, shop, product, or message to report it. You can also email help@freethegram.net. If someone is in immediate danger, contact local emergency services.
